National School of Public Policy Rules 2017 (“Rules”)  are made by the Federal Government in exercise of the powers conferred by section 16 A of the National School of Public Policy Ordinance, 2002. The Rules define the business of the Board, removal and resignation of the Board Members, appointment and term of the Rector, removal of the Rector, criterion for appointment of directing staff. The National School of Public Policy Service Regulations 2014 are repealed to the extent of the Rules only.

National School of Public Policy Rules 2017 prescribe that the board shall meet at least twice in a year. The rules describe the resignation and removal of members. The Rector of the School shall be appointed on contract basis for a non-extendable term of four years. The Prime Minister, either on the basis of his own information or on receiving a complaint for removal of the Rector, may desire the matter to be enquired into by any BS-22 officer. The Rector shall be the principal academic and administrative officer of the School and shall be responsible for proper implementation of the decisions of the Board. The Rector shall designate one of the directing staff as the Chief Instructor. The Directing Staff of the School shall be posted by the competent authority through the selection committee constituted under rule 9. The directing staff shall perform such functions and duties as may be assigned to them by the chief instructor. The secretary cabinet division is the chairman of the selection committee and the Rector is the secretary of the selection committee.
