The National Environmental Quality Standards (Self-Monitoring and Reporting by Industry) Rule, 2001, made under Section 31 of the Environmental Protection Act, 1997 of Pakistan, is a set of regulations aimed at ensuring that industries within the country adhere to established environmental quality standards and actively participate in self-monitoring and reporting of their environmental performance. The Rules extend to whole of Pakistan. The National Environmental Quality Standards (Self-Monitoring and Reporting by Industry) Rule, 2001 provides a management framework by requiring industries to monitor and report their emissions, effluents, and waste, ensuring compliance with environmental quality standards. This self-monitoring and reporting mechanism promotes transparency and accountability in the industrial sector’s environmental practices.
