The Pakistan Medical Commission Act, 2020 is a transformative legislation that aimed to provide for the regulation and control of the medical profession and to establish a uniform minimum standard of basic and higher medical education and training and recognition of qualifications in medicine and dentistry. It’s a federal statute and extends to whole of Pakistan. The Pakistan Medical Commission Act, 2020 had the jurisdiction all over Pakistan. Pakistan Medical Commission Act, 2020 established the Medical and Dental Council as the regulatory body responsible for overseeing medical education, accrediting colleges, and licensed medical professionals. The Act provides for the composition, regulation, nomination, and term of office for the members of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. The council shall meet once at least in three months and has the power to self-administer itself.  The Pakistan Medical Commission Act, 2020 also laid down guidelines and regulations for ethical and professional conduct for medical professionals. The Act aimed to ensure that healthcare providers adhere to high ethical standards and deliver quality care to patients. The act established the National Medical and Dental Academic Board and standardized examination system for medical professionals, including a National Licensing Examination (NLE). This examination became a prerequisite for obtaining a license to practice medicine in Pakistan. The Act also prioritized the digitalization of medical records and aimed to improve the quality of healthcare services provided to the people of Pakistan. It replaced the previous Pakistan Medical Commission Ordinance, 1962. The Pakistan Medical Commission Ordinance, 2019 is not valid however, the decisions taken under Pakistan Medical Commission Ordinance, 1962 and Pakistan Medical Commission Ordinance, 2019 would be valid.
