The Punjab Probation and Parole Services Act 2019
The Punjab Probation and Parole Services Act came in effect on 13 Jan 2020. The Punjab Probation and Parole Services Act 2019 extends to the whole of Punjab. The Punjab Probation and Parole Services Act 2019 was passed to establish an effective and efficient probation and parole service for assessing and managing offenders who have been or may be sent on probation or parole and for better coordination in the criminal justice system and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. It prescribes the working of parole board, probation and parole officers and describes the ways of maintaining system. According to the Act, Government shall establish and maintain a Service to be called the Punjab Probation and Parole Service. The Service shall consist of a Director General and such number of officers and staff as the Government may prescribe. The Service shall be responsible for assessing the risks and needs of offenders, creating plans for working with offenders, managing the risk of offenders, maintaining and updating of data regarding offenders managed or evaluated by the Service, ensuring that conditions of release or license are fulfilled, and facilitating rehabilitation of offenders.
