The Punjab National Calamities (Prevention and Relief) Act, 1958 is a provincial legislative framework aimed at maintaining and restoring order in areas affected by specific calamities and providing prevention, control, and relief measures for such calamities. It extends to whole of the Punjab. The Punjab National Calamities (Prevention and Relief) Act, 1958 contains provisions related to the declaration of calamity-affected areas, the appointment of a Relief Commissioner, prevention and relief measures to be undertaken in calamity-affected areas, requisition of government officials’ services, and punishment for non-compliance. It also includes provisions for delegation of powers, revision of orders, and the power to give effect to orders. The Act grants significant authority to the Relief Commissioner in managing and mitigating the effects of calamities and includes rules for its implementation. This legislation was enacted in 1958 and has been amended to address various calamities in the Punjab region. This Act has repealed The Punjab National Calamities (Prevention and Relief) Act, 1951, [the Khairpur National Calamities (Prevention and Relief) Act, 1954] and the West Pakistan National Calamities (Prevention and Relief) Ordinance, 1956.
