The Punjab Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Act, 2021 was enacted on 17th May, 2021. The Act provides the due respect to the women in society and guarantees their rights of ownership and possession of properties owned by women, ensuring that such rights are not violated by means of coercion, fraud, fabrication, forgery and cheating etc. The Punjab Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Act, 2021 gives an effective and speedy redressal mechanism to protect and secure the rights of ownership of women in property. The Punjab Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Act, 2021 repealed the Punjab Enforcement of Women’s Rights in Property Ordinance, 2019. Under the Act, the Ombudsman will deal all the issues regarding the matters of the ownership of women in property and where he/she deems fit, direct the officer-in-charge of a police station for such assistance as may be required for the purposes of implementing the orders.
