The Pakistan Academy of Letters Act, 2013 was enacted to establish the Pakistan Academy of Letters to provide for promotion of Pakistani language, literature and for the welfare of writer’s community throughout Pakistan and matters connected. According to the Pakistan Academy of Letters Act, 2013, the Federal Government shall constitute a Board of Governors of the Academy comprising the Chairman and several official and ex-officio members. The Board shall be responsible for setting of objectives and guidelines of the Academy. Under the Pakistan Academy of Letters Act, 2013, the Pakistan Academy of Letters is entitled to perform functions such as to administer and coordinate all government systems for the promotion of Pakistani languages, literature and welfare of writer’s community in the country, to advise the Federal Government on policy relating to the objectives and to determine research priorities etc.
Moreover, the Pakistan Academy of Letters Act, 2013 sets up a fund named as Pakistan Academy of Letters Fund which shall be used to meet the financial requirements of the Academy. The Pakistan Academy of Letters Act, 2013 is amended by Pakistan Academy of Letters (Amendment) Act, 2021.
