The Payment of Wages Act, 1936 (the “Act”) regulates the payment of wages to certain classes of persons employed in any factory, industrial establishment or commercial establishment. Every employer including a contractor is responsible for the payment to persons employed by him of all wages required to be paid and the wage period should not exceed one month and should be paid before the expiry of tenth day. In case of termination of employment of any person, the wages earned by him shall be paid before the expiry of the second working day on which his employment is terminated. All wages shall be paid in current coins or currency notes or in both.
