National School of Public Policy is a body corporate with an autonomous status as per National School of Public Policy Ordinance, 2002 (the “Ordinance”) having its headquarter in Islamabad. The Ordinance is a federal statute.  The National School of Public Policy shall be a body corporate having perpetual succession and a common seal having a school fund and an endowment fund.

The function of the school shall be to provide instructions, tuition, higher education, training, research, demonstration and service in such branches and disciplines of public administration, public policy, law, economics, finance, management sciences and any other relevant discipline as the Board may, from time to time determine. The School also provides service training courses to Federal and Provincial officers.

The general direction and administration of the affairs of the School shall vest in the Board of Governors. The President of Pakistan shall be the chairman of the Board of Governors. The Rector shall be the ex-officio Secretary of the Board and be the chief executive officer of the School. The member, other than an ex-officio member, shall hold office for a term of three years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for one more term of three years.

The powers and functions of the Board shall be to appoint officers, consultants, staff and employees; enter into arrangements or agreements with other universities and institutions; declare, with approval of the Federal Government, any training institution, administered and funded by the Federal Government, as a constituent unit of the School; receive any property, grants, bequests, trusts, gifts, donations, endowments and other contributions.

The Pakistan Administrative Staff College and National Institution of Public Administration, Lahore stood merged into National School of Public Policy after promulgation of National School of Public Policy Ordinance, 2002.
