This Ordinance may be called The Conciliation Courts Ordinance, 1961 and is enacted to make provision for the establishment of Conciliation Courts to enable people to settle certain disputes through conciliation. It extends to the whole of Pakistan. Section 3 of this Ordinance in accordance with schedule states all cases, which are included and excluded from the jurisdiction of the Conciliation Courts. An application shall be made to the chairman of union council for the constitution of Conciliation Court. Conciliation Court shall have jurisdiction to try a case only when the parties to the dispute ordinarily reside within the jurisdiction of the same Union Council in which the offence has been committed or the cause of action has arisen but this rule has an exception under Section 6 Sub Section 2. Conciliation Court can also award compensation according to the provisions of this Ordinance. An appeal can be made against the decisions of the Conciliation Court but provisions of The Limitation Act, 1908 shall apply. Conciliation Court may issue summons to any person to appear and give evidence, or to produce any document.
