The Trade Organizations Act, 2013 is a federal statute and was enacted for registration and regulation of trade organizations whose businesses are not confined to one province. A trade organization is defined under the law as an organization formed or intended to be formed with an object of promoting any trade, industry or service or any combination; prohibits payment of any profits to its members; and applies its income for achieving its objects.
Trade Organizations Act is applicable to all areas of Pakistan. The concerned regulator is Director General Trade Organization. A trade organization can only be registered by obtaining a prior license by the Federal Government which authorizes it to be registered. For issuance of license to a trade organization should either be a chamber or association of any of the types mentioned in the Trade Organizations Act, 2013 (Read: types of trade associations).
The Trade Organization Ordinance, 1961 (XLV of 1961) was repealed by enactment of Trade Organizations Act, 2013.
